In addition to the school fees, there is a required activity fee of $NZ650 per student. This fee covers the cost of transport, organized weekend activities, and a trip into the nearby city of Christchurch every Friday night. Throughout the twelve-week lecture phase, the students are given many opportunities to see various local sights and participate in outdoor exercise.

Some weekend activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Rock climbing at the popular and breathtaking Castle Hill
  • Climbing at the Port Hills
  • Indoor climbing at a rock wall in Christchurch
  • Surfing
  • Caving through Cave Stream, which is close to where the scenic movie Narnia was filmed
  • Hiking some challenging mountains and trails with breathtaking views, such as Mt. Oxford and Avalanche Mountain
  • Soaking in the thermal hot pools of Hanmer Springs
  • Camping trip through Arthur’s Pass National Park (over 75 years old & covers 280,000 acres)
  • Overnight camping in Lewis Pass
  • Mountain biking
  • Back-country 4×4

From your home, feel free to bring any outdoor equipment (camping gear), rock climbing gear, hiking boots, etc… that would allow you to better enjoy these activities. The base has some camping equipment that will be used for the outreach teams; however, if you want to use your personal belongings, bring it along!
