Basic Leadership School
BLS Intro
For all our new, inexperienced staff it is a requirement to undertake the Basic Leadership School. This is an in-service staffing program for the duration of 12 months.
BLS School Setup
This 12 month period may be composed of staffing one or two DTS’s or involvement in some other area of ministry with YWAM Oxford (hospitality, housekeeping, cooking, IT, web design, communication, administration, personal assisting, property and grounds, vehicles and transportation, etc)
The 12 months do not necessarily need to be served concurrently. For example, you may staff a Ski & Snowboarders DTS one year, return home for 6 months, then return and serve the same school the following year. Or, you may serve in a ministry for 6 months, then undertake a second level school (BCC for example), then continue serving for a further 6 months.
For those who choose to staff a DTS, it is recommended they come and serve for three months prior to the start of the DTS, if possible, in order to familiarise themselves with the current staff team and the various ministries at YWAM Oxford.
The whole course is designed to assist the development of leadership skills. The student is coached and mentored in the task of leading others. Students meet for one afternoon a week for discussion, lectures and instruction on such topics as personal skills, utilizing spiritual gifts, small group dynamics, basic management principles and leading outreaches. In addition the student meets regularly with a mentor for feedback and evaluation. Assignments are given covering basic leadership topics and issues.
The BLS is accredited with University of the Nations and successful completion of the course gives you 6 degree level credits in the College of Christian Ministries (CCM552), and further 4 – 6 credits if part of your time is an outreach (CCM553)
There is no charge for this school other than standard staff fees for accommodation plus a book fee.
