The Heart of the School

The Radical Love DTS’ are a family of schools that desire to help people know and receive the ‘Radical Love’ that our Father God has for us. As we receive this love into our hearts we are then faced with the question; ‘How do I express this Love with the World’?. The Radical Love DTS seeks to express this through three distinct themes or tracks. These are: Radical Love through Justice, Radical Love through Missions and Radical Love through Worship and Creative Arts.

The schools meet together for the majority of the school but separate into themes for about 10% of the time to focus on their particular theme.

The 3 themes are:

1)  Justice – for those whose hearts have been broken for the people around the world who are treated unjustly, whether that be in human trafficking, kids living in orphanages, homelessness or racial tensions.

2) Missions – for those who are wanting to take the gospel to the lost, to share the love of God with people and who have a heart to be God’s hands and feet around the world.

3) Worship and Creative Arts – This stream is for those who want to pursue God’s heart through singing, playing an instrument, drawing, sketching, photography, painting, or so many other ways that God has created us to be creative in. To use the gifts and talents God has given us to glorify His name throughout the nations.

Who is it for?

The school is for those who have a desire to know more of Abba’s love for them and a passion for any of the themes of i) Justice, ii)Missions and iii) Worship and Creative Arts. The school is geared towards young people aged 18-35 (or the young at heart), who are passionate about Jesus and about seeing this world in revival for the Fathers kingdom.

The Purpose of the School

The purpose of the school is to grow in intimacy with God, to know the authority we have as sons and daughters, to know the love of God in a more intimate way, and to take the love of God to the nations.

What can people expect in the lecture phase?

During the lecture phase, we will having speakers sharing on different topics such as:

– The Love of our Heavenly Father

– The Character and Nature of God

– Intimacy with Jesus

– The Lordship of Christ

– Relationships

– Holy Spirit

– Spiritual Warfare

Each week will consist of lectures, small groups, working in our community and time in prayer and worship. The heart of the school is to know God in a very real and intimate way and then to make Him known throughout the nations. There would also be time spent every week in your stream focusing on justice, missions or worship and creative arts.

Outreach Phase

What is the Purpose of this?

The purpose of outreach is to take the love of God to the nations. This looks like seeing people set free from the bondage of sin and living as his sons and daughters, loving people into the kingdom and seeing people released to be who God created them to be.  To break through language barriers using creative arts and worship and using this  to express God’s love to them.

Possible Locations

Possible outreach locations are Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. These are just some locations where our base has sent teams in the past but we are also open to God’s leading us to wherever He is wanting us to go.

Price range for Outreach budget: $5000-$7000

Length of Outreach

The length of outreach is 12 weeks. One week will be completed in New Zealand during lecture phase called church serve week and the other 11 weeks will be served during outreach.

Weekend and School Activities

There will be four inclusive weekend trips to different places around the South Island. These are a few of the possibilities: taking an overnight trip to the West Coast, going to Castle Hill and Cave Streaming, which you might recognize from movies like Narnia and Lord of the Rings. Sitting in the relaxing hot pools at Hanmer Springs, going on a hike/tramp, visiting Akaroa, a small French town or Diamond Harbour, one of the many bays in Banks Peninsula.

On the other weekends, there will be optional trips which would cost extra money to cover the cost of the use of vans and petrol. These trips could be to beaches like Taylor’s Mistake or Sumner, to different hiking locations around Oxford and Canterbury Plains, or into Christchurch to do some sightseeing in town. Budget around $100 for optional trips.

We do weekly outreach which consists of either going into Christchurch and serving with a ministry or local church, or doing street evangelism. Some weeks we might stay in Oxford and love our community around us as well. During lecture phase you will also go on church serve week with your outreach team to serve and to bond as a team.

School Leaders & Staff

Morgan Blankenship •

Hello, my name is Morgan! I am 26, and I grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri in the States. I am the oldest of five kids, and I absolutely adore my family. My two younger brothers (Carsen – 17 & Gideon – 11) and two younger sisters (Kennedy – 22 & Avery – 14) and my lovely parents are some of my favourite people in the world. I have a heart for missions, the nations and discipleship and I found a home that houses all of those things here at YWAM Oxford.

I did a Justice DTS as a student back in 2014. One of the biggest revelations I had from my DTS is that God is good, which in a harsh world can be a hard truth to grasp. After going home for a season I came back to staff a Justice DTS in 2016 and then a Justice/Around the World DTS in 2017. I just helped staff/lead an outreach for a Justice DTS at the Justice Reach YWAM base in Tauranga. My heart is to be the hands and feet of Jesus, moved by compassion to go into the world and love on those that others have cast aside. I'm now back home at Oxford and really looking forward to being a part of our family here!

Anna Martin •

Hey everyone! My name is Anna and I am from a small town in Alaska. You could say I’m mildly passionate about coffee, coasters, and people! I grew up in a crazy big loving family- and I am all about making family wherever I go!

I did the Radical Love DTS in February 2019 and stayed on base to serve afterwords. DTS was absolutely amazing for me! I came with high expectations to grow in my relationship with God, and He completely blew me away. I grew so much in finding my worth and identity in Him! Along with all of the growth I was welcomed by a new family here. The staff quickly became my family and really made it feel like home.

I am currently serving on base but will be staffing the Radical Love DTS in January 2020. I’m stoked to meet you all and journey alongside you as God transforms your life just like He did with mine.

Autumn Mcdonald •

Hey guys! My name is Autumn, and I am from Ontario, Canada eh? I've grown up in the church my whole life, but it was more of an obligation because my dad was the youth pastor. I decided to do a DTS in September 2018 and it completely changed my perspective on God. I now know Him as my Father who loves me and I know my identity in Him. I am forever grateful to YWAM and more grateful to staff here as well. Stay Sweet.

Ben Bryant •

Howdy, my name is Ben, I am from Loveland Colorado. I have gone to church as long as I can remember but I did not really know what it meant to be a christian. I had a good friend do YWAM and through him I saw what it meant to be devoted to God and I knew that I wanted Jesus in my life like he was in his. I did my DTS strait after high school, July 2017 in Tauranga NZ at YWAM Furnace, I learned how much God acctualy loves me and that He had a calling for my life, so I decided to do an internship at the base. During the internship I felt God tell me to come be on staff at YWAM Oxford. I am super excited to see how God stretches and grows me in the upcoming months and I can't wait for all the fun he has in store.

Neil Nicholas •

Yo, my name is Neil Nicholas from Bolivar, Missouri and, you're watching YWAM Oxford.
I grew up in a Christian family and felt a call to missions after a family missions trip to Mexico. I did my DTS at YWAM Furnace on the north island of New Zealand in 2017. It was a time of transformation, letting go of the past and beginning to walk into the plans God had for me. In this time, I learned about so many passions I never knew I had and most importantly how to serve a worthy God wholeheartedly. Shortly after, I did a leader’s internship offered at the same base, where I gained a heart for leading others. This brings us to the present, where I have been serving with YWAM Oxford since May 2018. I am part of the kitchen, hospitality and, maintenance departments and will be staffing the the Radical Love DTS for a second year. I am excited to grow and be a part of others growth.
My favorite color is a dark-blue-grey. I enjoy playing tennis and going to the beach. I like doing things outdoors and also watching movies. And lastly, I love outreach (it's the best part).

I can’t wait to serve the Lord with y’all!
