Climbing was probably an inevitable part of YWAM Oxford's ministry from the time the campus verse came into being 25 years ago. That verse is Psalm 121v1 "I lift my eyes up to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth."
Climbing has now been part of our campus culture since the first climbers DTS in 2013. The DTS has been the main expression of climbing on campus through until prayer over Covid where the feeling was this would build into a continuous community.
During the course of the 2023 Climbing School, the vision was taken up by students on that school and so the broader climbing community was pioneered.
The first year has looked like weekly visits to the local climbing gym building community with local climbers. This was followed by adding a support to the DTS in weekend outings and fundraising for the boulder barn.
Coming into the second year, it looks like finishing the boulder barn and adding both local and international outreaches to the climbing program.
We are excited for all that is ahead and challenge you to consider using your passion for climbing in this part of God's kingdom.
